Franconia in the Snow!
Having been delighted about the fact that the easter bunny didn't have to hide his eggs in the snow, Easter Monday saw Franconia blanketed in white, I'll show you the photo to prove it! But first a bit of grisaille ........ a painting done in shades of grey.
The motive is the "Alte Rathaus" in Bamberg, one of the first buildings I saw on my first trip to Bamberg about 32 years ago. I wrote about it a couple of weeks ago in my post "Where The Streets Have No Name". The building is so fascinating because it is built in the middle of a river, connected to the city by bridges and it is a strange mixture of rococo, barock and half-timbered; one of the major landmarks of the city and for tourists a "must see!". The part seen here on the left is covered by barock murals with 3D elements. The balcony over the tunnel is a rococo wedding cake dream!
Franconia is also famous for its savoury delights, meat-laden dishes (believe me it's a vegetarian or vegan nightmare!) and both wine and beer. So here is a photo of my Easter lunch
Schäuferle or schäuferla is pork shoulder with gorgeous crackling and a rich sauce sometimes made with beer, those are Franconian potato dumplings with it and wirsing, which is Savoy cabbage cooked with onion and bacon. A calorific nightmare, especially when washed down with lashings of Franconian beer, but as they say when in Rome ........! To be quite honest what with weather like this ...
It was just what the doctor ordered! Prost, Guten Appetit!
