Thou Shalt Have a Fishy Part 2!

Thou shalt have a fishy, reloaded! Here’s part 2 of my Varel Trip sketchbook page.

It actually was brass monkey weather with a biting cold wind, but that didn’t stop us from taking some field rations with us! My husband made a fresh cheese brezen and we took some wee bottles of beer, having found a pergola to sit in we admired the view, ate and sipped out beer which was an object of envy with fellow passersby. Usually the little maritime antique shop (top right) is open and you can enjoy rummaging around in boxes of old uniforms, lamps, compasses and other nautical paraphernalia but it was closed. The local shrimps are landed here, known as ''granat'' they are sold freshly peeled and cooked straight from the fishing boats.

Bottom right is another unusual sight in Varel, a huge windmill built in 1847 and with a wing span of  24m the second largest Dutch gallery windmill in Germany.

An idyllic place, to plitter around in and what with the way things are going perhaps the only place to go on holiday in this strange year. Won’t need to worry about packing my Factor 50 sunscreen, will I?
