Very Posh Pagodas!

Because my waterfall sketch page was looking a wee bit empty, I decided to continue on the theme of the Rococo garden and sketch some of the fabulous pagodas that feature in the Rococo garden in Veitshöchheim! Aren’t they amazing, the one on the left of the page is pineapple themed! Did you know that when pineapples were introduced to the UK in the late 1700's their rarity and the difficulties in cultivating the ''King Pine'', turned them into the ultimate food porn and status symbol! Only the extremely rich could afford to serve them being priced at about 5000€ per piece in today’s money. Pineapples became so desirable that it became fashionable to rent them to carry around and take to parties! There was a roaring trade in pineapple stands and ceramic centrepieces to display these luxuries, transporting them meant putting yourself at risk of being robbed or mugged just like wearing luxury watches today.

Take a peek at the real thing, what a fabulous pagoda, with the pineapples decorating the four corners.

What about this one too, just the place for a romantic tête-à-tête, a great place to invite someone to look at your pineapple, isn't it?
