First of the Year!

Finding it difficult to get motivated and back in to the swing of painting but this week saw the first piece of PastelCard stuck to a board on the easel and there it stood, empty and mockingly staring at me! Now some people procrastinate but as I've often said I think ''pro'' always sounds positive and active, proactive! My putting off painting is more ''precrastinate'', that is dithering, plittering, finding two thousand different reasons why not to get started, reflecting on whether to give up altogether and then grudgingly putting pastel to paper. Here’s the start of a wintery piece.
What is rather disconcerting is that even while my support was virginal, the masking tape started to curl up and peel off. Now if you read my last post, you know this is how I know when a painting is done. Is the universe trying to tell me to give up too?

A reflective search through my latest reference photos got me a little excited about a frosty landscape and some amazing frozen plants that look like crochet or lace, take a peek.
Isn’t that fabulous! How could I not want to paint that?

Nature, walking and my surroundings always give me a reason to carry on, even when my painting mojo has departed for a long, seemingly one way trip to Timbuktu. (Having just Googled Timbuktu, I can understand anyone wanting to go there, it looks lovely!).
Sometimes you find beauty in the most amazing things, look at this frozen red cabbage….. it looks like some kind of exotic bloom, to be honest the photo doesn’t do the hues in this cabbage justice. I'm not sure what I want to do with this photo or the 20 others I took but I'll let sleeping cabbages lie, and who knows maybe my painting mojo will whisper in my ear ''do you know what I need, some frozen cabbage to get my creative juices flowing!'' that or perhaps a trip to Timbuktu!
