From Seeds of Discontent Grow New Beginnings

From  Seeds of Discontent Grow New Beginnings is the title of my pastel painting that won me that fab comment in my feature in the Cyber Art Show '' This artist looks like her mind is on fire!” Love it, and still laughing about it now,

From Seeds of Discontent Grow New Beginnings

Yet again the sketches for this new painting were done at my local waterway, the scene was actually quite innocuous, but as I put pastel to paper/support this thing exploded into a completely different painting. It should have been a sunsetty, early wintery scene, but artistic license took over and this came about. Here is my progression;

this is the original scene, and my first marks then,

Even at this early stage we are heading off at a tangent however I decided to go with the flow changing the filter on my reference photo to black and white, that way you don't get tied down to the local colour and now moving on

Here we are getting along very smoothly for me, my original idea was to develop the branches in the reflections in the foreground but this went out the window, resulting in the myriad of hues that are both in the branches of the real tree and its reflection. I loved the feel of the tree growing out of roots that are larger and usually unseen. Isn't it often so that what lies below the surface is often more fascinating than what is above? Perhaps there is more to me than meets the eye; not just that middle aged, gin swigging, ballet dancing matron, maybe I am more my underneath.
