Dark Evenings of Autumn

The garden took over this week, with the dark evenings of autumn creeping slowly in; cutting hedges, scrubbing and emptying our plunge pool and various other dirty jobs that ''have to be done'' had to be done! As equipment wise we are still in the 18th century, the box hedge took 5 hours to cut and resulted in extremely stiff arms, so art was tricky this week, however I had started this!

It is a pastel of Bremen's historic town hall as a nocturne, something new for me! The town hall is really spectacular as you can see, a Weser Romantic facade,

lit up in the evening even more fantastic, lots of lovely diddly details! Dating from the beginning of the 15th C it has undergone lots of facelifts and harbours the famous Ratskeller, a huge wine cellar with the largest collection of German quality wines in the world, it also houses a priceless cask of Germany's oldest cask wine from 1653! Hmmm, not sure about drinking that, but the queen did sample a thimbleful on a visit to Bremen, her reaction is not recorded! Think I'll stick to my good old house red, however here's one of the fabulous decorated casks
I think that would go a long way to help me over the darkening evenings of autumn, don’t you think?
