Did you Guess?

Did you guess? No, need another clue? Well, here it is!

Hmmm, long boats, cliffs ........... now where could it be?

Sawadee Kha (hello) from Thailand! Actually, we’re back now from a fabulous two week trip to a beautiful hotel near Krabi! I must admit I really didn’t want to visit Thailand but this holiday really has changed my mind completely. The Thai people were gracious and friendly, the food was an explosion of herbs, spices and fabulous ingredients. The scenery was completely different to any other country I visited, but as it was the rainy season it made sketching much more challenging. Sun, clouds and deluges followed in amazingly fast intervals, meaning that planning where to sketch meant calculating for a quick sprint into some building or under a nearby roof. That said the hotel garden made the perfect place to sketch, walking around was like visiting a botanical garden! What better place to start!

Here we are looking towards one of the hotel's restaurants, in front of the restaurant were hedges cut into stylish rectangles, followed by a lotus pond and a row of amazing purple flowers! The garden was laced with raised walkways under which ponds, lilies, fish, birds and monitor lizards could be seen.So much to look at it was tricky to decide what to draw, even trickier was waiting for the watercolour to dry. Humidity of over 90% meant very runny, wet paintings. My fineliners and art pens didn’t like this at all, patience not being one of my personality traits (especially when sketching) this was a bit of a pain. That said I was more than happy with the way things went! And who wouldn’t be with a garden like this!
