Schloss Seehof from the Inside!

Managed to get away from family biz for a couple of magical hours in Schloss Seehof, Memmelsdorf, a building I've loved since I came to Bavaria 35 years ago. All those years ago the hunting box of the Prince Bishops of Bamberg was in a sorry state; locked up, falling into disrepair and the interior plundered, the last owners had ripped out everything saleable and parts of the interior could be viewed as far away as in the New York Metropolitan Museum. In my post of March 4th ‘’Frothy Frippery and Four Hundred statues, I did a sketchbook page about Schloss Seehof and mentioned wanting to visit the newly restored interior, I was lucky enough to arrive in Bavaria just after the reopening of the museums. Sketchbook and mask packed and off for a recce.
Sketching here was probably the most idyllic situation I've sat to draw in, it was scorching hot and I was seated on a fabulous original  Baroque garden bench, with a balustrade to lean on, cooling shade and the tinkle of a decorative fountain!

Although the courtyard was fab, the interior of the ''Weiße Saal'' was a true eye-opener, what do you think?

Wouldn’t mind sweeping through there in my Rococo Robe Anglais, glass of champers in hand and the glittering light of a couple of hundred candles reflecting on the guilding. The ceiling was painted by Giuseppe Appiani and we have this ceiling to thank that the Bavarian state intervened when the private owners tried to have it taken down to sell it. Now in state hands you can view the Weiße Saal and another 8 state rooms (wearing a mask is compulsory!)
The exterior is also not to be sniffed at, there is a maze, grotto, decorative lakes and fountains ........! Wouldn’t mind having it as my summer residence, especially with Corona; social distancing, no problem!
