Merry Christmas!
Let me whisk you away on our swan sleigh to a midnight sleigh ride with King Ludwig II of Bavaria!

King Ludwig II (known as Mad King Ludwig) loved a wee midnight jaunt around the Bavarian countryside, so let’s get comfy, cosy in our ornamental swan sleigh and off we go, the bells on our horses bridles jingle and we can feel the swoosh of the cold air as we dash through fields! The frosty glitter of the fields takes our breath away …. As we laugh and sing carols, Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein castle glows in the crystal clear air.
Back in the warmth of the castle, we spend the rest of the night singing carols, drinking mulled wine and eating traditional German Christmas biscuits.
My experience of sledding wasn’t quite as romantic, my best friend Alice wanted to have a sledge for Christmas. We had visions of sledging down Corstorphine hill near our houses, in deep snow, lovely! Christmas came and Alice got her wish ……. I don’t know where Alice's Dad got this sleigh but it looked like something Mad King Ludwig would have used! Black wrought iron, humongous (a six seater) with a huge iron crossbar as a brake. First off, there is no way on earth that Alice, her wee sister ''Boffy'' and I could ever have dragged that monstrosity out of the garage, never mind up Corstorphine hill …. And secondly and perhaps more crucially we had no snow, not that year or the couple of years following. The sleigh lay gathering dust in Alice's garage as did our dreams of sweeping down, snow covered hills.
Other memories of sledging include being out with my daughter as a child in Germany, sledging and I just didn’t hit it off, I had no talent and not a clue how to steer, I managed to hit the one tree on our absolutely huge slope. Ahhhh! Memories.
So here’s hoping that you all had a wonderful festive season and I would like to thank you all for reading and popping in to my blog, I'm taking a break until the 8th of January 2022. Have a wonderful New Year, and I hope that 2022 will be an improvement on 2020/2021! Keep healthy and I'll see you next year!
