Journey's End

However lovely it is to be away there’s always that fabulous feeling of a Journey's End when you catch a first glimpse of the lights of home, open your front door and full of new impressions, adventures, drop down your bags and see your own bed. That’s what this painting is about!

Journey's End

After a long 6 hour drive home after the Christmas holidays on the motorway in Germany, we had this fabulous pinky, blue sky and the glowing, welcoming lights of what is now our home. In the triste days of Winter a very welcoming sight!

Actually, I'm quite tempted to do another painting with this panorama format and maybe featuring the motorway itself but it was such a pleasure just to play with that sky!
The downside of Journey's End are the piles of dirty washing, unopened mail and an empty fridge. I remember my first trip to the Maldives 25 years ago, the hotel did one million and one things with pineapple, pineapple for breakfast, lunch and dinner! It was like Bubba Gump and the shrimp, '' You can boil it, you can fry it, you can bake it ...'' On our last day a honeymoon couple we met were getting ready to fly home, sad to leave suddenly the newly-weds started laughing, they had just remembered that the only thing they had in the cupboard at home was ..... you guessed it, a tin of pineapple!
