The Twelve Days of Christmas!

My sketchbook page of the Twelve Days of Christmas is finished, taaaaaddaaaaa!

Traditionally, the twelve days of Christmas were the days of wild celebration between the 25th of December and Epiphany; they also coincide with the so-called ''Wild hunt'' or Rauhnächten, a pagan legend where mythological figures chase through the forests (sometimes through the air) on the hunt for souls. A widespread legend in Northern European countries, the hunters are animals, adults and children who died a violent death or viking warriors lead by Odin, Valkyries or elves. Regional traditions play a great role in how these 12 days are spent, in Bavaria you don’t go out after darkness, if you hear the wild hunt you aren’t supposed to look at it or you will be forced to join in. If you are indoors and poke your head out of the window to see the wild hunt, your head will swell up so much you will get stuck (wondering about that, I've got a big head!) so best to stay at home, close the shutters and don’t do any white washing (if you hang out white washing the wild hunt will use it for your shroud). The Wild Hunt are harbingers of doom, an omen of death, war, catastrophe and illness; didn't hear them this year but as crappy as 2020 was, we should have. Hoping they’ll keep away because another year like 2020, no thank you! I'll stick with the ladies dancing and the pooping turtle doves!
